The Southeast Regional Library is an embodiment of civic process. Designed to support present and future information, and cultural and meeting room needs of southeast Maricopa County, the building has a variety of spaces, each designed for flexibility.
Reading rooms, conference rooms, computer training center, study rooms, and staff circulation areas are all supported with technology that maximizes current use patterns and anticipated future trends. Additional support spaces include a Friends of the Library bookstore, a coffee bar, and a storage/overflow area. The building itself is a landmark, set facing a prominent intersection. Raised four feet above adjacent grade, the reading rooms look out over a fresh water lake and wildlife refuge. The public enters the building along shaded colonnades that lead to a split-face block rotunda. Once inside, the soaring ceilings and sweeping curbed forms create a spacious and airy feeling reflecting the organic shape of the lake, while allowing in controlled natural light.
